Its varied diagnostic uses are expanding and in some cases replacing more invasive procedures. A Sonographer is a highly-skilled professional who uses specialized equipment to create images of structures inside the human body. As a Sonographer you will gather and record patient histories, perform the ultrasound scan, process and analyze diagnostic sonographic data, and provide a summary of findings to physicians for diagnosis. Sonographers have extensive, direct patient contact, therefore must be able to interact with empathy and effectiveness with people ranging from healthy to critically ill. As a Sonographer you will be there when expectant parents experience the miracle of seeing their baby for the first time, or to help with the early detection of a life-threatening illness. Catheterization involves inserting a small tube, known as a catheter, into a patient’s blood vessel and then into the heart. The procedure is done to determine whether the patient has a blockage or heart disease. The procedure may also involve balloon angioplasty, which can be used to treat blockages of blood vessels or heart valves without the need for heart surgery. During the procedures, the Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist monitors the patients’ blood pressure and heart rate with EKG equipment. Invasive Cardiovascular Technologists also may prepare and monitor patients during open-heart surgery and the implantation of pacemakers. The Department of Labor publication, Occupational Outlook Handbook, projects that Medical Assistant / X-Ray will be the fastest growing occupation over the next ten years. The Medical Assistant / X-Ray Diploma is becoming more necessary since modern technology and medical treatments are resulting in patients opting to have their medical needs taken care of in doctors’ offices and clinics rather than in hospitals. Medical Assistant / X-Ray graduates work more with patients who are ambulatory (able to walk in and out on their own), rather than with patients lying in hospital beds.Surgical Technologists are in a highly-trained position to assist with surgeries under the supervision of a surgeon. Surgical Technologists are a member of the surgery team which is generally comprised of surgeons, circulating nurses, and anesthesiologists. Surgical Technologists prepare the operating room by setting up the sterile instruments, drapes, and equipment. The Surgical Technologist assists the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves and passing surgical instruments, sutures, and sponges during the surgery. The Surgical Technologist must anticipate the needs of the surgeon by providing the necessary instruments in a quick and efficient manner.2 Campus Locations: Orlando, FL Palm Harbor, FL
