Information on Programs Offered:Computer Networking Overview The Associate of Science Degree in Computer Networking with Emerging Technologies Program provides instruction in various network designs, computer-related equipment, network management, systems and application software. In addition, the program will introduce the student to exciting emerging technologies; such as, network security, wireless networks, Voice Over IP, and remote network management. This program offers course work designed to train the network administrator in standard networking principles as well as new and emerging technologies. The diploma program in Computer Networking with Emerging Technologies Program provides instruction in various network designs, computer-related equipment, network management, systems and application software. In addition, the program will introduce the student to exciting emerging technologies; such as, network security, wireless networks, Voice Over IP, and remote network management. This program offers course work designed to train the network administrator in standard networking principles as well as new and emerging technologies. A diploma will be awarded upon successful completion of this program. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology Program presents an integration of didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences. The program prepares students to function as entry-level Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Sonographers are highly skilled professionals qualified to provide patient services using diagnostic techniques under the supervision of a licensed doctor of medicine or osteopathy and assist physicians in gathering data necessary to reach diagnostic decisions. Students who have successfully met all educational and institutional requirements for an associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology are eligible to take the national registry examinations to become a certified Sonographer. Emergency Medical Services is an Associate of Science Degree program which encompasses two occupational opportunities, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic. Most students complete this program in units; starting with the EMT-B Diploma Program, then proceeding to the Paramedic Diploma program, and finally completing the additional general education courses required for the Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services. In addition, the Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services program is designed for certified, professionally employed paramedics who want to pursue a degree. A degree will be awarded upon successful completion of this program.The (EMT-B)-Paramedic Program provides learning experiences that enable the student to acquire and assimilate the necessary technical competencies to function effectively as a supportive health care provider. This program is designed to prepare the student for a career in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Field first as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic and then the more advanced Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic in accordance with the Department of Transportation National Standard curriculum. Paramedics are highly trained members of the health-care community who utilize clinical decision making to formulate a field impression in order to provide basic and advanced life support. Paramedics are responsible for bringing life-saving diagnostic and treatment skills to the patient at the scene of an emergency. As the highest level “out-of-hospital” healthcare provider, the paramedic acts as a team leader during an ambulance response to medical emergencies, rescue operations, mass casualty situations, and crime scenes. A diploma will be awarded upon successful completion of this program. This program is approved by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (Ch 401, FS, Ch. 64J-2, FAC) and follows the most current U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum. Students who have successfully met all educational and institutional requirements as defined by the College for a Diploma in (EMT-B)-Paramedic at Keiser Career College are eligible to have their names submitted to the Florida Bureau of Emergency Medical Services to be considered as a candidate to sit for the State Board Examination for Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (EMT-B) and State Board Examination for Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P). As the highest level “out-of-hospital” healthcare provider, the paramedic acts as a team leader during an ambulance response to medical emergencies, rescue operations, mass casualty situations, and crime scenes. This is the second level for a career in Emergency Medical Services. A diploma will be awarded upon successful completion of this program. Credits earned in the Paramedic program can be applied toward an A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services.Paramedical Estheticians work with plastic surgeons and dermatologists in pre-and postoperative skin care. Under the guidance of a licensed health care provider, they provide treatments that prepare the skin for surgery for a more comfortable healing process. In addition to studying techniques used in the medical community, students will study advanced skin care training marketable in spas and salons. Students will participate in a clinical setting to apply skills that have been acquired in the program. All students are required to complete at least 100 “services” as part of their practical training. A diploma will be awarded upon successful completion of this program.Upon successful complete of the Paramedical Esthetician program, students may apply to receive their Florida State Registration Certificate as a Skin Care Specialist. Those students who do not have a social security number are not eligible for state licensure. Practical Nursing Overview The Practical Nursing diploma program from Keiser Career College in Greenacres, Florida will familiarize the student with the techniques and procedures of basic bedside care. Students will learn how to take vital signs; such as, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration. In addition, students will observe patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments, collect samples for testing, perform routine laboratory tests, feed patients, and record food and fluid intake and output. The Registered Nurse Bridge Program is designed to prepare the student for a career as a professional nurse. The program is designed to enable individuals who are currently in the Practical Nursing profession to study to become Registered Nurses. Students are prepared as Registered Nurses for a variety of careers in nursing and health care fields, and incorporates students' previous nursing training into the program requirements. An associate degree in nursing will be awarded upon successful completion of this program. This program provides instruction in how to effectively run, manage, and direct all operations involved in a spa establishment. This includes but is not limited to human resources, retailing, customer service, accounting, and marketing. In addition to the business aspects, graduates will be trained in skin care, aromatherapy, spa treatments and cosmetics and color theory to effectively serve as role models and team leaders for their employees. The Associate of Science Degree Program is designed to prepare students for career opportunities in the spa and spa related fields and includes a general education component which complements the comprehensive skills.
