The Dental Assistant program with Expanded Functions and Dental Radiography trains students to meet the demand for qualified Dental Assistants. The U.S. Department of Labor expects the field to grow 29% between 2006 and 2016. Our short-term Dental Assistant with Expanded Functions program teaches students to support dentists during advanced procedures and manage the day-to-day operations of a dental practice. The 720-hour program also includes expanded functions such as dental radiology to make students even more attractive to employers. After working in the classroom and lab, students complete their training at a hands-on externship with practicing dentists and real patients. The UMA Medical Assistant program trains you for entry-level employment in the high-demand Medical Assisting field. This focused, hands-on course can be completed in under a year. You'll learn to perform a variety of clinical procedures, such as EKG, CPR, specimen collection and drug administration, and to manage the day-to-day business operations of a medical facility. After completing classroom training and a real-world externship at a local healthcare provider, you'll receive a diploma and be ready to pursue employment in doctors' offices, hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, and other healthcare facilities. Optionally, graduates can sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exams to increase their earning potential and open up more job opportunities.Medical Billing and Coding specialists are in high demand at doctors' offices, hospitals and insurance companies. Our program teaches students how to complete, process and maintain the millions of health insurance claims these organizations and their patients file each year. Students learn the coding used to identify and label medical conditions and procedures and how to use medical billing software.

This short-term, career-focused program includes study in the classroom and hands-on learning. This mix of theory and real-world experience is helpful in today's job market. UMA students graduate with a diploma and are qualified to help ensure that doctors and patients are appropriately reimbursed for their medical expenses.

Training in administrative and clinical settings provides students the skills necessary to obtain entry-level employment.

Course components include EKG, blood collection and “waived” laboratory procedures, equipment use, collection and handling of specimens, safety, medical ethics, anatomy/physiology, medical terminology and training for Medical Manager responsibilities. Upon completion students are eligible to sit for the national certification exam.

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are in high demand, and students will train to work closely with doctors and nurses in a hospital setting. Students learn phlebotomy and advanced procedures like EKG, along with the day-to-day responsibilities of monitoring patients' conditions, updating medical charts and communicating with hospital staff. The program includes real-world experience at an area healthcare facility.

Training covers primary hospital departments including pediatrics, intensive care, critical care and rehabilitation. The program also includes fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, medical ethics, equipment and safety. Students graduate with a diploma and are ready to begin a medical career as a PCT in pre- or post-operative care, pediatrics, or even the Emergency Room.

At UMA, Pharmacy Technician training is a stimulating mix of classroom and laboratory training followed by a hands-on externship in a real pharmacy, working with actual patients. You'll learn drug dosage and interaction, pharmacology, pharmacy law and more before being placed into a real-world pharmacy to put your training into action.

Upon graduation, you'll receive a diploma and are qualified to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) national certification exams, which will increase your employment opportunities. UMA offers additional test preparation classes to ensure that students are ready for the PTCB and ICPT exams.
