    Information on Programs Offered:

    The Business and Management Technology emphasis of the Associate of Science Degree in Computer Information Science is comprised of a combination of courses in the general education, business, and computer science areas. These courses provide the necessary information to prepare a student for an entry-level career as a data processing professional in a business environment.

    Occupation Outlook
     The U.S. Department of Labor states that Computer Information Sciences is one of the fastest growing career fields in the United States (Occupation Outlook Handbook, 2004-2005). Business has become more reliant on technology to manage knowledge and process communication. The Associate of Science Computer Information Sciences degree with an emphasis on Business Management and Technology provides a foundation for graduates to join the workforce in entry-level positions as technical professionals and become valuable assets to their employers. Through hands-on training with the most current software applications and curricula, graduates can advance their careers in a variety of industries.

    Training Objectives
    A graduate of the CIS program will have the proficiency to qualify for a variety of entry-level careers. The program involves intensive, hands-on training with up-to-date computer applications used in many jobs for creating and using spreadsheets, databases, and accounting ledgers. The program has several courses to give graduates the skills needed to be successful in many organizations, such as:

  • The Computer Drafting and Design Emphasis of the Associate of Science Degree in Computer Information Science is comprised of a combination of courses in the general education, business, and computer science areas. These courses provide the necessary information to prepare a student for a career as an entry level CAD operator.

    Occupation Outlook
    According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupation Outlook Handbook, industrial growth and increasingly complex design problems associated with new products and manufacturing processes will increase the demand for drafting services. Further, drafters are beginning to break out of the traditional drafting role and increasingly do work once solely performed by engineers and architects, thus also increasing demand for drafters.

    Training Objectives
    Today's job market is looking for qualified candidates that display speed, accuracy and knowledge. CAD courses offered at Florida Technical College provides the skills needed in all three requirements to compete in today's job market.

    In the Computer Drafting and Design program, graduates will be trained to seek entry level employment in a number of occupations:

  • The Associate of Science Degree in Medical Assistant is a combination of medical and general education courses designed to prepare a graduate to become a Medical Assistant and to obtain an entry-level position in a health care facility.

    Students in the Medical Assistant Technician diploma program will acquire their knowledge and competency for this profession through clinical and administrative class work and supervised clinical practice in an externship.

    In the classroom, students will be introduced to a number of vital, important health care skills. Students will study Medical Terminology, Cardiology, Surgical Procedures, Pharmacology, Lab Procedures, and Clinical Procedures.

    Students will also be exposed to actual on-site training in the externship component. Students will work at a clinical site. Students will have responsibility for clerical functions, venipuncture, collection of specimens, assistance with office exams, basic first aid and bandaging, charting patients, taking vital signs, billing and other office duties.

    The Associate of Science Degree in Network Administration/Hardware with Wireless Technology is composed of a combination of courses, which provide entry-level skills in such areas as network design and administration and network configuration. Course work emphasizes Windows and A+ training. This program is designed to prepare a graduate for entry-level employment in network administration.1 Campus Location
