About Us
The Humanities Center School of MassageA Tradition of Excellence The Humanities Center School of Massage was established in 1981 under its original sole owner, Audrey Flax. In January of 1983, the school was purchased by Sherry Fears and has remained under her guidance until 2005, when the Humanities Center was acquired by Cortiva Institute (Florida), LLC whose sole stockholder is Cortiva Education, Inc. Shortly following accreditation in 1985, the school was recognized as an institution of higher education and was able to offer eligible students Federal Financial Aid, was recognized by the Department of Immigration and Naturalization, and became a member of the AMTA. Through the years the Humanities Center School of Massage has continued its commitment to excellence. Back in the 1980s, our school was one of the first massage schools in the country to develop and implement a voluntary rotation through a major hospital/cancer treatment facility. The Humanities Center also was a leader in the development and offering of a supervised student clinic open to the public, as part of our students training, which continues today. Information on Programs Offered: Our Therapeutic Applications of Massage Program is a 672 hour program: a holistic and hands-on approach to massage. You'll be challenged and inspired to create your own unique career path, whether that means working in a hospital, clinic, spa, health club or your own private practice. We are excited to be able to offer our program because it presents so many opportunities to those who want to enter the profession and feel confident about their entry-level training. Our training is well-rounded with a good balance between lecture and hands-on time. Students who successfully complete this program become certified in Basic Swedish Massage, Integrated Relaxation Techniques, and in the highly sought-after approach to NeuroMuscular therapies we call Integrated Therapeutic Techniques. Graduates find that they are comfortable in job settings that emphasize wellness and stress-reduction, as well as settings which focus on sports or medical rehabilitation of soft tissue injuries or dysfunctions. Our Continuing Education classes are designed to help graduates and other massage professionals expand their knowledge and hone their skills.
